Enrique Infante Performs 6th Annual Tribute to

Latin American Folk Music November 26 at Woodlands Tavern

Music, Art, and Poetry Fuel Passion-Filled Show

 

COLUMBUS (October 3, 2011) — Enrique Infante and his Latin fusion band Dejavu will perform the sixth annual tribute to Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez on Saturday, November 26 at Woodlands Tavern. An art show and live poetry will accompany the three-set performance. Doors open at 8:00 p.m., music starts at 9:00, and admission costs $7.

 

Participating musicians include Enrique Infante (vocals and guitar); Jeff Crisafulli (bass guitar); Carlos Durán (drums); Kimberly Hollingsworth (vocals); Kevin O’Neill (saxophone and flute); Tim Perdue (trumpet); and Tim Magree (piano).Guest musicians Tino Casanova (percussion), Sergio Ibañez (Venezuelan cuatro), and Marta López (vocals) will join the band for several songs. The politically-inspired music of Argentine singers Facundo Cabral and Mercedes Sosa, and of Cuban singer Pablo Milanés, will also be performed.

 

Art Show

An art show entitled El Nuevo Arte will be on display during the event, featuring works inspired by the pro-revolutionary principles of the Latin American political movement known as La Nueva Canción. Curated by Juan Carrera of Abx Columbus, artists include Carrera, Kent Gee, Rob W. Jones, and Ryan Mowry.

 

Poetry

Members of Escritores Latinoamericanos de Columbus, a local Hispanic writers group, will read an assortment of original poems during set breaks.

 

Woodlands Tavern is located at 1200 West Third Avenue in Grandview.

 

About Enrique Infante

Enrique Infante is a Peruvian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who moved to Columbus in 1998. He founded Dejavu, a Latin fusion rhythms band, in 2004. The band released its debut album Abriendo Caminos in 2006 and will release its second record Canciones Ajenas later this year. Before moving to Columbus, Enrique played with the Peruvian bands Los Mojarras and Pukakuntur. In 2010, he received El Premio Orgullo Peruano (Peruvian Pride Award) for his work as a successful artist outside of Perú. Visit dejavulatinfusion.com for more information.

 

About Silvio Rodríguez

Silvio Rodríguez is a Cuban singer-songwriter who, along with Pablo Milanés and Noel Nicola, was credited with founding the musical movement known as La Nueva Canción.
